Editing Questions

Who are Enago’s Editors?
Our editors are native English speakers who hold PhDs or Master’s degrees from top universities such as Harvard, MIT, and Oxford. They are all experts in their respective academic fields with an average of 19.4 years’ experience in editing. Most of them are published authors and peer reviewers in their own right as well as members of some of the world’s best editor societies, such as BELS and CSE. We also have a rigorous editor recruitment procedure and strict quality benchmarks. To qualify as an Enago editor, each person is extensively tested on their subject knowledge, language, style, and proofreading skills.
What's the difference between the Copyediting and Substantive Editing services?
Copyediting is designed for quality-conscious ESL authors who require a thorough and complete language check for their manuscripts. Copyediting editors examine the entire manuscript taking into account all aspects of English language usage, spelling, and grammar.
When you select our Copyediting service, your manuscript is edited using a two-step process. First, it is edited by one of our skilled subject and language experts. It is then handed over to a language reviewer for crosschecking. This ensures that even the smallest of grammatical mistakes are discovered and corrected. Under Copyediting, we offer a 100% Language Accuracy.

Substantive Editing is our top-tier premium service. It maximizes your chances of getting published in international peer-reviewed journals. Authors who opt for Substantive Editing are matched with our highest ranked and the most skilled editors to work on your document. This service pays the closest attention to detail and offers the most thorough treatment in the areas of academic editing, proofreading and quality assurance.
The focus of Substantive Editing is not only on the proper use of the English language, but also the overall presentation of the paper, including logical flow and structure. We ensure that your paper complies 100% with journal guidelines and make appropriate suggestions to maximize the quality of your manuscript. When finished, we guarantee delivery of a manuscript that is 100% ready for publication in any SCI-indexed or top journal.

Does Enago provide a Certificate of Editing?
A number of journals ask for a Certificate of Editing at the time of manuscript submission. This certificate is useful especially for non-native English-speaking authors, because some journals insist on a Certificate of Editing which states that the paper is edited by native professional editors and may include a standard recommendation for English editing by native professional editors in the absence of one. We provide these certificates for free to authors availing our Copyediting and Substantive Editing services.
Do you provide Post Editorial support?
Yes, we provide unmatched after-sales service, thus helping authors in ways more than editing. For more information, click here.
Do you provide any free add-on/value-added services along with editing?
Yes. For Copyediting, our free add-on services include a Manuscript Rate Card that provides a comprehensive assessment for grammar, language, and academic writing style, along with valuable tips and suggestions to enhance your manuscript. For more information, click here.

For Substantive Editing, our free add-on services include a Cover Letter that is customized based on the content of the manuscript, a Manuscript Rate Card (described above), and an Advance Report that provides a thorough structural review. For more information, click here.
What is your guarantee?
We guarantee that your paper will never be rejected because of language. If your paper is rejected due to poor English after it has been through our copyediting or substantive editing services, we will edit it for free, unconditionally.
What do I do if I am not satisfied with your services?
If you are unhappy with the quality of our edited output, please raise a complaint with the quality department via an e-mail. An immediate enquiry is initiated for all the complaints that we receive. The result of the quality check will be shared with you. In case of a valid complaint, i.e., an error from Enago, we take immediate action and the next steps will be communicated to you ASAP.
Do you edit LaTeX documents?
Yes we do. For direct TeX editing and for editing a TeX file in MS Word delivery format, we request you to always send us the PDF file along with the TeX file. In case you do not send us the PDF file, we will e-mail you to send us the PDF file. However, if we do not receive the file, we will be unable to send you the quotation or start editing your assignment.

Submission Process Questions

Is your website safe?
Yes it is. We use the most recent and website security features available.
How do I get the most accurate word count?
To calculate the word count, please delete any parts of the manuscript that you do not need us to edit. In case of a response-to-reviewers document, you can take out all of the reviewers’ comments. If don’t need your references to be edited/formatted based on the journal guidelines, you can remove the bibliography section. Following this, perform a word count on the remaining text using the Word Count feature in Microsoft Word on every file you plan to submit to us and add it all together. This is your final word count. In case you are still unsure of the final word count, please get in touch with our client servicing team; they can perform a word count for you if you e-mail us your files and ask for confirmation.
Do you include references and tables in the word count?
Yes we do, unless it is specified otherwise in your instructions.
What if I don’t want you to work on my entire paper?
We will need you to highlight the sections that you want us to ignore. You will also be prompted to include additional instructions regarding this when you upload your file through your Enago account. An editing certificate may not be applicable if you ask us to leave out large portions of your paper.
